Jeroen Perk
Ambassador for retinal and brain-chip technologies
Jeroen Perk was functionally blind for 17 years. In 2013, he received the Argus II “bionic eye”, allowing him to perceive light and outlines through just 60 pixels.
When the company behind the technology later stopped supporting the implant, Jeroen experienced another side of medical innovation: what happens when the technology moves on, but the patient cannot?
He brings the patient perspective into a conversation that is often dominated by scientists, engineers and companies. What does progress actually feel like for the person using the technology? What improves, what remains difficult, and which blind spots only become visible once innovation enters someone’s daily life?
Jeroen will be speaking in Dutch.
