Patrick Chaltin

Managing Director | CD3
Patrick Chaltin

Dr. Patrick Chaltin is Managing Director of the Centre for Drug Design and Discovery (CD3), a drug discovery organisation and investment fund created by KU Leuven and the European Investment Fund to turn promising academic science into new therapeutic opportunities.

He has led CD3 since its creation in 2006. With a background in pharmaceutical sciences, intellectual property and technology transfer, Chaltin works at the point where academic discoveries have to make the difficult transition towards drug development, investment and ultimately clinical application. CD3 combines an in-house drug discovery team with investment in early-stage biotech companies.

At FTI Leuven, Chaltin joins Paul Stoffels for the discussion on Europe’s competitiveness in life sciences. He brings the perspective from the very beginning of the pipeline: how can Europe identify its strongest science earlier, develop it faster and create the funding and structures needed to turn research into globally competitive medicines?
