Eric Michiels
Quantum Technical Ambassador | IBM
Eric Michiels is Executive Architect, Quantum Technical Ambassador and Quantum Regional Lead for Belgium and Luxembourg at IBM. With more than 25 years of experience at IBM, he combines expertise in IT architecture, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies with a strong focus on quantum computing.
He is also a Qiskit Advocate and a Fellow at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where he helps connect academic research with real-world applications. Through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on workshops, he makes complex quantum concepts accessible to businesses, researchers and professionals.
At FTI Leuven, Michiels joins Jan Sonck (Quantum Circle) for an interactive workshop exploring the potential of quantum computing in healthcare. Together, they will examine promising applications, from molecular simulation and drug discovery to complex optimisation problems, while separating realistic opportunities from the hype surrounding this emerging technology.
